What better way for young people to dive into summer than at a free, action-packed football camp!
This year, we teamed up with Peckham Soup Kitchen to host an amazing week-long football camp at Peckham Rye Park. Welcoming 120 young participants from all backgrounds, many from low-income families, the camp offered a safe and inspirational environment for local young people to have fun safely.
With guidance from local professional coaches and passionate volunteers, young people honed their football skills and confidence. A real highlight was Pamela, a former Crystal Palace player, who shared her journey into professional football and encouraged the next generation of Messi’s!
One camper summed the event perfectly:
“This week was great! I made ten new friends. If not for this football camp, I would’ve been at home doing nothing, but here I got to learn new skills and had a lot of fun playing football.”
To celebrate the week’s success, we wrapped up the camp with an epic Fun Day, complete with games, a bouncy castle, face-painting and Caribbean food from local business Tasty Jerk! Southwark’s own “Supacell” actor, Akai Coleman, was there to award the young athletes medals and certificates. In a cherry on top moment, one standout player was scouted by Crystal Palace FC!
Partnering with grassroots organisations like Peckham Soup Kitchen lets us direct support to where it’s needed most and provides positive experiences for local young people.
